The Rule of Religious History

The Church maintains two timelines. The first is the ancient literary history of Iambe and related traditions. The second is the documented institutional history of the modern Church of Iambe.

The modern Church must never backdate meetings, membership, doctrine, ordinations, charitable activity, financial records, or founding events. If a practice begins in a particular year, that year should be recorded. If doctrine changes, the old version should remain available in the archive where appropriate.

This is not merely administrative caution. It is theology. Iambism mocks pretension; fabricated antiquity is a form of pretension. The religion should be able to say, without embarrassment, “We are new.” Newness does not prevent seriousness, community, beauty, or sincere belief.

The Ancient Witness gives the Church a root. The New Cycle gives it branches. The congregation gives it living growth. Accurate records show where each branch actually began.

The Historian’s Verse

We need not counterfeit an ancient chain,

For honest roots can still receive the rain.

Record the year each living branch was grown;

A truthful tree need claim no age unknown.
